Firehouse # 3 History

One of the department's single company houses and the last to use horse drawn fire apparatus, the last horse drawn run being in 1926.  Station 3 now houses the department's only heavy rescue company, Rescue One.  Station 3 was closed in 1974 and was used by the police for a short time before the Fire Department reopened it in 1989 to house an Emergency Care Unit.  On April 18, 2005, Emergency Care Six was relocated to Station 10 at Georgetown and New Circle and Rescue One was placed in service.  The department's Chaplain has an office on the second floor and the Technical Rescue Battlion Chief is also upstairs.  The station was built by Gus Clark and Norman King for $14,300 with $2,700 of the money from the sell of the Pine Street Station being used to purchase the property.
